Days of the Week in Farsi

The Farsi week starts on Saturday (Shanbe), not Monday. Here are all seven days:

  • Shanbe (شنبه), Saturday
  • Yekshanbe (یکشنبه), Sunday (literally "one from Saturday")
  • Doshanbe (دوشنبه), Monday ("two from Saturday")
  • Seshanbe (سه‌شنبه), Tuesday ("three from Saturday")
  • Chaharshanbe (چهارشنبه), Wednesday ("four from Saturday")
  • Panjshanbe (پنجشنبه), Thursday ("five from Saturday")
  • Jome (جمعه), Friday

Notice the pattern? Days 1-5 are just numbers + "shanbe." Once you know Farsi numbers, the days almost memorize themselves.

The Persian Calendar (Solar Hijri)

Iran uses the Solar Hijri calendar, not the Gregorian one. The year starts at Nowruz (spring equinox, around March 20). The current year is 1405 in the Persian calendar.

The calendar has 12 months. The first 6 months have 31 days, the next 5 have 30 days, and the last month has 29 days (30 in leap years). Learn more about the Persian New Year in our Nowruz guide.
