How to Write Your Name in Persian

Learn how to write your name in Persian step by step. Match English sounds to Farsi letters, handle vowels, and practice the Persian alphabet for free.

Writing Your Name in Persian

Writing your name in Persian is a fun first step into the script. It makes the alphabet feel personal.

Persian writes sounds, not English spelling. So you match how your name sounds to Farsi letters.

This guide shows the simple steps. You do not need to know the whole alphabet to start.

Step 1: Break Your Name Into Sounds

Say your name slowly and listen to each sound. Ignore silent letters from English spelling.

For example, "Sarah" sounds like "sa,ra". "Mike" sounds like "mai,k".

Write the sounds down first. This is the map you will turn into Persian letters.

Step 2: Match Sounds to Farsi Letters

Persian reads right to left, and short vowels are often left out. Long vowels use letters like ا (a), و (o/u), and ی (i).

Quick examples:

  • Sara becomes سارا.
  • Ali becomes علی.
  • Maryam becomes مریم.

Start with the consonants, then add long vowels. Short vowels you simply say, not write.

Step 3: Practice and Check

Write your name a few times and say it out loud. Compare the shapes with a name you know.

To get the letters right, learn them in our Persian alphabet guide and the full Farsi alphabet course.
